The Board of Directors of Golden Agri-Resources Ltd (“GAR” and together with its subsidiaries, the “Group”) has appointed Mr. Agus Purnomo as the Managing Director, Sustainability and Strategic Stakeholder Engagement. Mr. Purnomo joins the company to drive forward its Forest Conservation Policy and find solutions to the challenging issues surrounding its zero deforestation commitment. Mr. Purnomo is taking over from Mr. Peter Heng, who has resigned to pursue new career opportunities.

In his new role, Mr. Purnomo will be responsible for the Group’s sustainability strategy, the implementation of the sustainable palm oil commitments throughout the entire value chain, and collaborating with the Group’s key stakeholders.

Mr. Agus Purnomo has held many positions for the government, multilateral institutions and international and national NGOs, focusing on the area of sustainability for more than 30 years. He has served, among others, as the Special Assistant to the President of the Republic of Indonesia for Climate Change (2010-2014); Special Assistant to the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia (2004-2009); Environmental Adviser to The World Bank (2002-2004); Country Representative/Executive Director of WWF Indonesia (1996-2002).

Rafael B. Concepcion, Jr., GAR Executive Director and CFO said of the appointment: “Agus joins us at the right time in our evolution as a leading proponent of sustainable palm oil. GAR was the first Indonesian oil palm plantation based business to adopt a zero deforestation policy in 2011, and has evolved the High Carbon Stock methodology to de-link palm oil production from deforestation. This is a challenging management process, and inevitably lessons are learned along the way. Agus brings considerable experience to us, and is well placed to help us move forward”.

Mr. Purnomo commented: “I am very pleased to be joining GAR and look forward to helping the company continue to stay ahead of the curve in the zero deforestation movement, and to working with stakeholders and GAR’s management team to achieve this”.
