Jakarta, Singapore, 10 August 2011 – Golden Agri-Resources Ltd (GAR), and its subsidiaries PT SMART Tbk (SMART) and PT Ivo Mas Tunggal (IMT), have been informed by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) that it will resume its review of the RSPO certification reports submitted earlier by GAR and its subsidiaries. GAR will work closely with the RSPO to ensure timely certification for these operating units.

In September 2010, the RSPO Grievance Panel entered into a constructive dialogue with representatives of GAR, SMART and IMT with the goal of agreeing on actions to resolve cases of non-compliance with the RSPO Code of Conduct. GAR, SMART and IMT subsequently presented the Grievance Panel with a full written response detailing the action plans which were monitored on a quarterly basis.

As part of the requirements of the RSPO Grievance Panel, GAR, SMART and IMT have also submitted all final reports as detailed in its action plan. RSPO is reviewing these reports and will provide its feedback to the companies. GAR, SMART and IMT will also work closely with RSPO to implement the changes required.

GAR, SMART and IMT have also engaged international NGO, The Forest Trust (TFT) to help GAR prepare for certification of all its palm oil operations (as at 30 June 2010) by December 2015. The engagement with TFT will not include the 103,953 hectares of plantations and 11 mills which were part of the ongoing SMART and IMT RSPO certification process which commenced earlier. GAR is committed to complying with the national laws and regulations and the RSPO Principles and Criteria.

As part of its holistic approach to sustainability, GAR together with TFT has launched its Forest Conservation Policy and is in the process of developing its Yield Improvement Policy and Social and Community Engagement Policy.
