Achieves an important milestone with 30 mills and palm oil estates and over 180 thousand hectares of land now ISPO certified
JAKARTA, December 10, 2016 – Golden Agri-Resources Ltd. (GAR), today announced that two of their business units – PT Sinar Kencana Inti Perkasa and PT Bumi Sawit Permai – received ISPO (Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil) certifications on 10 December 2016.
With these latest certifications, GAR closes out 2016 with a total of 30 mills and palm oil estates supplying fresh fruit bunches to the mills that have now been ISPO certified. This represents the highest number of ISPO certifications being awarded in Indonesia for an integrated palm oil company. In regards to land coverage, 186,307 hectares are now certified to ISPO as of December 2016.
To ensure alignment with ISPO requirements, GAR has invested significant time and resources to ensure full integration of their internal engagement processes, policies and work programs. Studies are conducted throughout the year gathering relevant intelligence for decision-making, and internal controls have been put in place with all business units to ensure compliance with Indonesia’s national sustainability platform.
Agus Purnomo, Managing Director Sustainability, said: “GAR is proud to announce our latest ISPO certifications for PT Sinar Kencana Inti Perkasa and PT Bumi Sawit Permai. This showcases our firm commitment to sustainability. We are active supporters of ISPO and we continue to encourage all our supply partners to improve their sustainability practices and become ISPO certified.”
ISPO certification is an important milestone on GAR’s overall sustainability journey as it provides assurances to its customers and stakeholders in regards to legality and compliance of its mills, estates, and entire supply chain. It also aids in the achievement of other internationally recognised sustainability standards like RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) and ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification).
Purnomo adds: “It’s not just about achieving certification. It’s also building recognition to the only mandatory certification platform in Indonesia that will drive and encourage sustainable palm oil production.”
In addition to focusing efforts on helping their suppliers adopt better social and environmental practices, GAR and other palm oil industry players also participate in discussions with the Indonesian Government to discuss the need to increase the visibility of ISPO globally.
